Interfaith Learning for All
Edinburgh Jewish Cultural Centre seeks to celebrate and share Judaism and Jewish culture with people of all faiths and none, Jews and non-Jews. Westhill Endowment has generously agreed to support our new “Interfaith Learning for All” programme, which will select contemporary themes and examine different religious approaches to those themes.
Background
Edinburgh Jewish Cultural Centre seeks to celebrate and share Judaism and Jewish culture with people of all faiths and none, Jews and non-Jews, particularly at a time of such tension between communities. We now wish to widen that remit to increase understanding between faith communities of each other’s religious traditions and perspectives on topical issues, e.g. the environment, to help rebuild the trust which has been so severely challenged since October 2023.
Overview
Westhill Endowment has generously agreed to support our new “Interfaith Learning for All” programme, which will select contemporary themes and examine different religious approaches to those themes. The sessions will be “hybrid”, both in-person at a venue in Edinburgh and online.
Programme
The programme, which is still under development, will involve:
- Dr Ann Conway-Jones, Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham and Chair of Birmingham Council of Christians and Jews (and recently awarded CCJ’s James Leek Prize for special leadership)
- Reverend Gareth Jones, Interfaith Officer, the Methodist Church in Scotland
- Rabbi Dr Natan Levy, Head of Operations for Faiths Forum for London
- Kamran Shezad, executive director of Bahu Trust, representing 22 UK mosques committed to influencing behavioural change around sustainability
Other presenters to be confirmed, at this stage focussing on the Abrahamic faiths. If the initial programme is successful, future series will widen the remit to include other faiths.
