Loving Earth Project
An exhibition of textile panels created by members of the public considering the challenges of environmental breakdown.
This exhibition is offered to you in association with the Quaker Arts Network (QAN). Please see details of this partnership at the bottom of this page.
Caring for the world we love
Consider one place, person or other thing that you love?
How will climate change and environmental breakdown affect them?
What action is needed to reduce the risk of harm?
How can you help to make this happen?
Many people are anxious about environmental breakdown but don’t know what to do about it. Yet we all have a part to play.
The Loving Earth Project, by the Quaker Arts Network, started in 2021 and offered a simple way for participants to identify actions we can take, for the sake of something, someone, or somewhere that we love. Those who joined this community textile project had the chance for further exploration into climate change, had a way to celebrate what they love, and had a chance to share positive examples of actions being taken and why.
The Loving Earth Project involved individuals and groups considering the questions above, each creating a 30cm-square textile panel in response, and sending them, along with a short accompanying text, to the QAN for inclusion in the exhibitions and on their website.
The project was a huge success with over 500 handmade panels being submitted and exhibitions in a wide range of venues, including several in and around Glasgow at the time of COP 26.
Feedback from visitors to exhibitions, and participants in the workshops, has been very positive, and the Loving Earth Project was listed as one of “the best cultural events in Scotland for COP26”.
Due to the success and continued interest in exhibiting these works The Quaker Arts Network are continuing to make the textiles available for exhibition in groups/multiples of 25 textile panels. These can be sent out to you by post directly by the QAN.
Each panel is accompanied by text that should be displayed alongside it, which are supplied electronically for you to print in your own style. There is also information to help you set up your own creative Loving Earth workshops for your community to join in with. The exhibitions are thought provoking, inspiring and also wonderful ways of starting conversations and discussions
