Caritas Salford
Caritas Aspire
Caritas Aspire is a project operated by charity Caritas Salford which works alongside asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants in the pursuit of their career, education and entrepreneurial goals. Caritas supports people experiencing poverty, homelessness and disadvantage across Greater Manchester and Lancashire via a wide range of community and outreach services.
Background
Caritas Aspire recognises the opportunities that people from refugee and asylum backgrounds can bring to the UK when supportive positive integration is considered with a person's career, education and life aspirations.
Our Model
As part of wider supports from other Caritas projects, Aspire has developed a model of positive integration which has encouraged those from refugee background to be active in their futures. Caritas understands that people are influenced in their life by many factors which affect them and need to be taken into account during their new life in the UK. We see each person as an individual and seek to support their own goals
Our Offer
Over each academic year and through the delivery of classes from highly qualified and experienced tutors, Caritas teaches ESOL from pre-entry level to IELTS - a total of 7 ability levels. These longer courses are structured with add-on activities to ensure that students not only learn English but are confident to use it in a variety of situations.
A great way for a person to integrate and acclimatise to UK life is through volunteering. This can hold it's own barriers for people where language can prevent understanding the process or required training. Caritas' approaches allows students to be involved in a variety of ways and we encourage volunteering opportunities while maintaining high standards of checks and training.
