Wellbeing Garden & Bereavement Support Project
ACCEPT is a small charity whose vision is improved mental health for those experiencing difficulties and good mental health for the wider population, whose activities mostly take place at a community wellbeing garden in Barwell, Leicestershire.
ACCEPT receives referrals from a variety of organisations, including the NHS, Social Services and County Council.
The Bereavement Support Project seeks to help bereaved adults through the grieving process, by providing different groups. Westhill’s kind provision includes the loan of sculptures, alongside the production of permanent outdoor sculptures, to assist in working through experiences.
Founded in 2003, ACCEPT’s work aims to help adults experiencing a variety of enduring mental health issues and multiple complex needs, including bereavement to ACCEPT themselves more and experience the ACCEPTance of others. The focus is quality of life and life transformation, rather than quantity.
ACCEPT works in partnership with other organisations, including to facilitate the ‘Bald Statements’ sculpture exhibition, by the late Jean Parker, taking individuals through a journey of loss, grief and healing.
OUTCOMES reported by beneficiaries, to an independent consultant (Starby Consulting), included overcoming isolation, reducing feelings of loneliness, improving in mental health, confidence and self-esteem, alongside forming new friendships and connecting with the community.
Starby also reported how ACCEPT was: “creating a ‘community’ as opposed to an ‘intervention."
