The Loving Earth Project
Caring for the world we love
- What places, people and other things do you love?
- How how will climate change and environmental breakdown affect them?
- What action is needed to reduce the risk of harm?
- How can you help to make this happen?
Many people are anxious about environmental breakdown but don’t know what to do about it. Yet we all have a part to play.
The Loving Earth Project helps by offering a simple way to identify actions we can take, for the sake of something, somone or somewhere that we love. Joining a community textile project to illustrate this provides space for further exploration and a way to celebrate what we love and share positive examples of actions being taken and why.
Our project involves individuals and groups considering the questions suggested, and making a textile panel and sending it to us for inclusion in our exhibitions.
Our website lovingearth-project.uk offers a range of downloadable and video resources to enable individuals and groups to take part in the project, adapting to their own circumstances if need be.
Panels and accompanying texts are displayed in our online gallery and those that are sent to us are then made available for in-person exhibitions.
Groups of panels have been exhibited in a wide range of venues, including several in and around Glasgow at the time of COP 26, and we have also been offering events in-person and online to help people make their own panels and to discuss some of the issues raised.
Feedback from visitors to exhibitions and particpants in our workshops has been very positive, and indeed the Loving Earth Project was listed as one of “the best cultural events in Scotland for COP26”
We have received panels from many different countries, in various styles and materials, though they all need to be the same size (30x30cm). Groups of panels will continue to be available for exhibition until end 2023 and we encourage people to work with others locally to organise events and displays, with our support where needed. We are also continuing to develop further materials to support people on their journery to greater sustainability.
All are welcome to join the project - whatever your textile skills - including children (with appropriate adult supervision). Why not make a panel about something you love or are doing to help stop further environmental damage, to join our collection?
