Dear God...
“Hardly anyone can ever find God because God is right at the end of your mind after all the background thoughts are gone.”

Xplore! Science and RVE*

*Religion, Values, and Ethics

Making cross-curriculum connections, Xplore!’s science and religion, values & ethics workshops for year 3&4 and year 5&6 learners provoke discussion on how scientific concepts align to the teachings and values across different faiths.

Co-created with local religious education advisors and delivered by Xplore!’s Science Communicators, the workshops are interactive, with hands-on activities and resources to complement the Curriculum for Wales. This funding proposal is to extend the programme’s reach by delivering fully funded sessions for schools across Flintshire, Denbighshire, and Conwy, and once updated to align with the National Curriculum in England, via deliveries to schools in Cheshire and Shropshire.

Who
Xplore! is a leading science engagement organization with extensive experience developing and delivering workshops tailored to diverse learner needs. Partnering with Wrexham local authority religious education advisors and supported by St Asaph Diocese, Xplore! collaborates with local schools to create impactful cross-curricular workshops. Their skilled Science Communicators work with education advisors and schools in northeast Wales, Cheshire, and Shropshire to ensure the programme supports learners and teachers. With strong relationships established through prior projects, Xplore! is ready to expand this work, leveraging their expertise to engage with 40 schools and reach over 2,000 learners across multiple regions.

What
Over the 2024/25 and 2025/26 academic years, Xplore! will deliver free, one-hour Science and RVE (Religion, Values, and Ethics) workshops to schools in Flintshire, Denbighshire, Conwy, Shropshire, Cheshire West and Chester, and Cheshire East. The workshops aim to connect science, engineering, and ethical themes, offering topics like “In Search of Light,” “Three: A Magic Number,” and “Building Wisdom” for years 3–6. Each session is tailored to learners’ abilities, including those with disabilities, and is supported by pre- and post-workshop activities to extend learning. Workshops are bilingual, ensuring accessibility for Welsh-medium schools and rural or large schools alike.

Why
This programme seeks to bridge the gap between science and RVE, empowering teachers to deliver cross-curricular learning with confidence. Feedback from Wrexham schools highlights the workshops’ value in enhancing student engagement and curriculum support. By expanding partnerships with St Asaph Diocese and schools in Cheshire and Shropshire, Xplore! aims to reach underserved schools and provide resources that enrich learning. With proven success in delivering high-quality programmes, this project leverages Xplore!’s expertise to create inclusive, impactful educational experiences that inspire learners, foster teacher confidence, and ensure meaningful community engagement.
