Lifeline Harrogate
Peer Support Group for Residents
Lifeline Harrogate set up a new ‘Peer Support Group’ towards the end of 2022 based on a model from a similar charity in the north-west of England. This group allows residents to come together on a Thursday morning and to share experiences and to help each other. They have speakers, which include former residents, and a large programme of topics, for example, how to reduce smoking, and understanding emotions.
The Peer Support Group is held at a local community centre. Residents meet and enjoy a hot drink and breakfast roll. Each week there is a theme and a range of training courses are offered to residents that will lead to qualifications that will be useful for future employment. Lifeline Harrogare are also supporting residents who lack basic maths and English skills that prevent them being employed. They have 21 residents and usually get a high attendance at the group each week.
