11+ Free Tuition Bursaries
Grammar Schools were always designed to improve social mobility…
So what has happened…?
Gloucestershire has some excellent grammar schools and the reputation of many of them is so good that pupils from as far away as Swindon, Oxford and Birmingham apply. There is no catchment area.
Entry is now so competitive that there is a thriving tutoring industry to help applicants gain a place.
Tutoring is expensive and only more affluent families can afford it.
So what's the knock on effect on social mobility?
It’s obvious.
Few, if any, children from lower socio-economic backgrounds get the chance to join a grammar school.
Our research suggests that only 4.5% of entrants are on the Free School Meals register, compared to 16% in other secondary schools.
What can we, many of us who may have benefited from a grammar school education ourselves, do about it?
Fairview Education is a local education charity that offers a fully funded package of tutored lessons, teaching materials, practice exams and advice on the application process to families for whom this is unaffordable.
Pupils are sponsored by charitable donations from local companies, individuals and grant making organisations who want to see the original vision of social mobility within the grammar school system restored.
There is also an opportunity for sponsors to contribute further to the education and work experience for pupils as they move through years 7-13 and into higher education.
We aim to form long term relationships and partnership with companies, organisations and individuals who are excited by our vision.
Help us change the future.
