Entraide
Afghan Refugees Support Project
Entraide was set up to support asylum seekers, refugees and other vulnerable migrants in Solihull, and the surrounding area, to facilitate their integration into society.
The project funded by Westhill aims to facilitate the integration of Afghan refugees resettled in Solihull and the surrounding area through befriending, leisure and recreational activities and employment support.
Many of the individuals we support have come from war-torn countries where they have faced persecution and other human rights violations. When they arrive in the UK, they are not aware of the various services and amenities that could benefit them and their families. Many end up living in destitution and unable to access the most basic amenities or mainstream services due to their unfamiliarity with the UK welfare system, language and cultural barriers and the government's "hostile environment" policy towards migrants.
This situation applies to refugees from Afghanistan who have been repatriated to the UK as part of the operation “pitting” following the fall of Kabul to the Taliban but also those arriving through the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS) and the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP). Our project aims to break these barriers in order to facilitate their social and economic integration in our area.
