Campus Leadership Programme
The Campus Leadership programme is an interfaith programme for university students to create and host interfaith initiatives on their campuses and become interfaith ambassadors. Campus leaders receive training in topics including, communication, dialogue, difficult conversations, Israel Palestine, faith based hate, event planning and more before going back to their campuses to create their interfaith initiatives. Campus leaders receive support from the CCJ team and an interfaith mentor throughout their time on the programme. The programme also offers opportunity for campus leaders and alumni to join CCJ events and wider interfaith opportunities throughout the year.
The Campus Leadership Programme gives students the skills and experience needed to create brave interfaith spaces that in turn will create social change and build a culture of inclusivity at their university. The programme empowers student leaders to form relationships across faith communities.
With training and mentoring by interfaith leaders, Campus Leaders are empowered to organise their own student led initiatives which are tailored to their local context.
The centrepiece of this training is a residential which this year took place at Sadeh Farm in Orpington and featured a workshop on leadership with Rabbi Shoshana Boyd-Gelfand and a ceramic workshop with the potter Edmund de Waal. CCJ’s Campus Leaders hold student led interfaith events throughout the year. These events bring together students from all faiths and beliefs and are made possible through the advice, contacts, support, and funding that CCJ provides.
Through this, students can tackle stereotypes, issues of religious hate and intolerance, and foster understanding at their universities while also becoming interfaith ambassadors. CCJ gives students a voice to share their experience as students of faith on campus. At the end of the year Campus Leaders join our Alumni Network equipped with the skills and networks to become interfaith ambassadors in their communities beyond university.
By the end of the programme, our campus leaders develop leadership skills and confidence in interfaith dialogue, are resourced and empowered to stand against faith-based hate at university, are equipped with skills and experience to be an interfaith ambassador and gain valuable experience for beyond university.
This year we have 13 students at universities in St Andrews, Durham, Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham, Edinburgh and Warwick.
