BLGC
Diverse Voices
BLGC is an innovative and progressive young people’s charity based in Bolton, Greater Manchester.
Established in 1889, our mission is to enable children and young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to live healthier, happier, and safer lives. We believe that every child deserves the best start in life and chance to fulfil their potential. Each year we support around 4,000 individuals through our services, which are based at three sites across Bolton, and through our network of outreach, schools, and community-based activities.
Our offer includes open access Youth Clubs providing a vast array of activities, sports, multi-media, social action, and creative arts; and a Targeted Youth Service providing critical support to some of our most vulnerable young people and families.
Taking place at BLGC’s main centre, known as ‘Infinity’, Diverse Voices is a music project, which will engage 40 BAMER (Black, Asian, Minority Ethinc, Refugee) young people, aged 8-21 years, living in Bolton.
Our 12-month project will include delivery of weekly group music sessions, comprising a blend of drop-in Jam Sessions and Music Skills Workshops. This will enable participants to benefit from an enriching entry level programme of Digital Music Making, offering support towards learning how to use digital software and instruments to record/remix tracks, artistic development, lyric writing, and performance skills.
In addition to the weekly drop-in Jam Sessions and Music Skills Workshops, Performance Opportunities will be scheduled to help BAMER young people to showcase their musical talents and share their voices with others.
We will also provide participants with regular 1:1 support to help them overcome any issues, build self-confidence and motivation, and nurture their aspirations.
